I'm not quite Ty Pennington Yet

DIY extreme basic home maintenance started tonight. 8 women, and two men, plus Mike who looked about 60.
The journey there was interesting. Some kid had left a skateboard in the road. I saw it too late, swerved and hit it on it's side. It flew up hit the car and took out the wing mirror.
God knows what I do with that now.... Halfords I guess.
DIY was ok. It was in a very old woodwork classroom. 8 wood tables with vices. Old marked things with writing all over them. Voices of kids long gone. Mine said 'RB is Gay'
First we filled out forms. Objectives and goals... What we wanted to achieve from the course. Easy for me. We use that sort of stuff in work. I filled mine out first. He smiled as he read it. Under 'Any special difficulties' I wrote. 'I am hopeless' At least 6 others hadn't a clue what to write, so he handed my paper around for them to copy. Great.
Then we talked about what we wanted to learn. He's going to show us some basic plumbing, electric stuff... How to wire a plug and move a socket, how to drill. What bits to use.
Next week we have to take our drills in. I told them all I had a yellow one. They were impressed, I could tell.
A couple of them had a sense of humour but some were like frosty the snowman.
We stopped for coffee at 8pm... To find there was no coffee. Someone suggested a kettle next week. I suggested a few bottles of wine.
Imagine me with yellow drill and wine?
We talked about safety. Don't try to mend anything gas powered, don't work on live electric, don't stand on chairs, use a solid surface like a table to stand on but don't walk off the edge (huh?)
I learnt that electricity vibrates and it vibrates the screws out of plugs so you should check them all yearly (yeah right I'll be doing that)
The room was very basic, it's going to be cold in there when winter sets in. He's going to take us somewhere to tile in a few weeks.
But it was good and the time went quickly.
And I came home to lots of comments on here. And I feel very loved and better about stuff. Thanks everyone. I really do love you and appreciate you all. There's a comment down there from laphroaig that put stuff into perspective for me.
