So you wanna be cool?

There was a recent newspaper article** telling us how to be 'cool' when we get over 35. It was quite stupid and used words like Hip.
What defines the use of the word cool anyways? My idea of cool will be miles away from your idea of cool. For a start if you have to ask yourself if you're cool., you aren't!
Shay Abby and Nic were having a conversation around me (I wasn't listening) yesterday. Nic went to use a swear word. She stopped and put her hand over her mouth. Shay said, quite rightly. 'Say what you want Nic'
Nic went on to say how she wouldn't swear in front of adults. There was a bit of a silence when the brains in the room configured that she meant me.
'Oh heck don't worry about Trin' Shay said 'She's not an adult. she's younger than us'
I just laughed and carried on typing, ignoring them. 'I still haven't worked out how she had Abby' she said.
I find each of our perceptions of ourselves and each other as fascinating. Shaly refuses to believe she is beautiful. But she is, inside and out. She shines and always will do. She's feisty and bright. I think she's cool. She brought a CD over yesterday. My Chemical Romance. YES at last someone brings new music to me to listen to. It was cool stuff but I particularly liked her passion toward it. She was really into it.
So what makes a cool person? Fuck if I know. But just don't take everyone at face value. Inside there just maybe something worth listening to.
I've only got one mate who'd I deem to be fairly cool. And I admit that's because of my snobbery at my love of good music. He is someone I can really talk to about such stuff and he understands.
I think Abby's mates are cool. They bring something fresh and lively to this house. I can't wait for Danz to start senior school and me meet some of her mates (if I'm allowed!)
You know, you might think your teen years are such a pain..You might think your teenager is so challenging and hard work. But they are exploring and learning and changing all the time. It's exciting and you are lucky to share it (honest).
My mate Barbs has got the coolest teens ever. You know why? Because they got a super cool mum. She goes with the flow. Lets them explore and learn but is always there to pick up the pieces and comfort when things don't go right. Because life isn't all Roses and things do go wrong.
You want to be cool? Nah don't bother. Just be yourselves. That's cool enough.
