He says it is ironic that he has never been out of the Eastern US - that is ironic considering his collection of *airline* air-sick bags.
But to say it is ironic that he isn't married? Doesn't sound all that ironic to me. Can you imagine him on a date? She asks: what do you do for fun. He says: I collect barf bags, want to come see them? Not a good way to get to first base, much less sharing breakfast.
