Hellboy Rocks

With my close relationship with HellBoy's director Guillermo del Toro (ok I met him once) I decided to go see the film today. And I wasn't disappointed. The film was visually superb with the special effects demons really real and believable...Think Alien. Like that really. Hellboy played by Ron Perlman was gritty, funny and likeable. The only disappointment was his Hand of Doom that looked very unreal and light like polystyrene. The young agent assigned to him, played by Rupert Evans, was a nice piece of female eye candy but was a tad insipid. I loved the firestarter Liz (Selma Blair ) she was excellent. Totally cool, caring and beautiful. Her fire effects were ace. The film was gritty and fast. Lots of human bits but no bit in the middle where it all goes wrong like so many movies. Not too much emotion either (some though). Just a Demon trying to become a man. The villains were evil and wicked. I had to hide my eyes during the train scene. I was scared. And most of all, lots of pretty cute cats. Hellboy loves cats. A good film worthy of a visit but wow out on DVD in the States already!
