Driving to work this morning I heard The Thrills singing their new single 'What ever Happened to Corey Haim'. Now I don't dislike The Thrills at all and I think his voice is moorish. Love the Irish lilt to it. But the song is crap. It's not the title or the song subject. Its the actual song, the composition. Its like some amateur patchwork quilt of words.
I'm not a great pop lover (to say the least) and not keen on the Bedingfield takeover of the pop scene but I heard Natasha singing live this afternoon and wow she can hold a note. She's a natural singer. Watching the latest offering The X Factor last night I wondered if Simon Cowell would have picked her out as something special.
Despite myself, I half enjoyed The X Factor. Maybe its because I didn't really ever watch any of the Pop Idols (not burnt out by it) but the real draw was Sharon Osborne who added a certain class and quality to the proceedings. After the awful Louis Walsh's dreadful trip with the non-event that was One True Voice, I bet they are all praying they don't get him as a manager. Mind hopefully they won't be expecting instant super stardom after the Michelle McManus incident. The British public might vote for you but don't expect them to support you afterwards. Particularly if you expect them to buy sub standard frankly uninspired stuff.
