Etiquette

You know my mate Bill? The gentleman who linked me to him for all eternity?
He writes this imperative blog on all stuff that is Blog. Quote 'style, content, freebies (want freebies now) and etiquette'. Well I just posted I love him in the comments box and wondered, as one does. If that is correct blogger etiquette.
Is it well mannered to express such affection this way or should I have done it privately behind the bike shed? Questions questions. It's so hard being this intelligent.
