A couple of Days at the cinema

Yesterday me and Abby went to see Fantastic 4 a la Cinema.
TBH I wasn't expecting much, maybe an entertaining afternoon...Well hopefully. After War Of The Worlds I was reserving judgment.
The Fantastic Four had Marvel Comics stamped all over it. And Marvelous it was indeed. The actual 4 were ace. So true to the marvel comics I've read years ago. Mr Stretchy Fantastic, was his usual geeky aloof self devoid of any passion except for his science projects. Susie Storm, beautiful, brave sensible yet yearning for Stretch to wrap himself round her. Johnny Storm, Mr Sparky. Rebel, young, bold, inpetuous, flash and sex on legs. The thing. The rock behind the 4, Ben. Gruff, mean, hard, flash temper, just tolerates Johnny but incredibly sensitive.
Then the simply divine Julian McMahon as Doctor Doom. Money driven, crazy villain who hates the foursome with a passion.
The Marvel comic plot is what made this film. Yep the SX were ace, not as highly skilled as War Of The Worlds... But hey I didn't care. They still rocked. The film had a feel good factor.
I loved the first rescue with the fire truck and the dalmation doggie.
I loved the one liners, I loved the relationship between Ben and Johnnie. I loved the lack of any gooey love between Susie and Reed.
It wasn't mammoth, it wasn't Oscar material. It was just plain out and out fun. I wasn't bored once. Recommended.
However today's film is not recommended.
Today we went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The remake of the classic Gene Wilder film. Now, number one problem is that I love the book and loved the original film. The film was magical, funny and memorable.
What's the point in remaking a film that's no where near as good as the original?
Johnny Depp was 'weird' he had this purple hue and looked like a cartoon much of the film... Weird. The kids, apart from the excellent Charlie, were not a patch on the originals. Julie Dawn Cole come back! I was expecting a spectacular colourful set. Well ok it was alright but a lot of it was dull. But the worst bit was the Ompah Lumpas. All played by the same man!! Yes, the same man scanned into the special effects over and over. And an ugly little man too. Very odd. Nothing like the cute unusual originals. That was a huge mistake. Ok, the good bits? Charlie was ace. His family were very good. The ending was heart warming. Certainly not suitable for kids under about 6, and not a patch on Lemony Snickett.
