Dave and Comedy
Dave Allen. He died today sadly aged 68. A man who battled through life with one problem and another but I liked him. A great comedian in his day. A rebel, outspoken and the cutting edge of comedy in my youth. Sad he should die on Red Nose Day.
You Know I'm wondering if this kind of TV marathon charity production has had it's day. An article I read in the Daily Mail this week really put me off of donating. The girls have really bullied me tonight trying to get me to phone in. Hmmm I prefer to donate to a charity I think is most needy. The reporter in the paper said his Nephew's school had a non uniform day and they had to donate a pound. His Nephew went in full uniform and refused to pay a pound. His teacher and class mates had ridiculed him and called him and his family scrooge. Not sure what to make of that, except it's a free country and that shouldn't have happened.
Maybe the events this week have dulled me a little but I don't find a lot of it funny and the scenes showing the little boy sobbing for his dead mother were disgraceful. Just to stand and film him? Not hold him and hug him? He was 8 FFS! They just stood back and filmed an 8 year old child racked with sobs for effect to make us donate? I'd have been much happier to see the camera put down and someone offer a warm pair of arms to that little lad.
Anyways, I guess they are at least trying to make a difference. I guess it's easy to sit back and criticize isn't it?
Just sometimes I do worry.
