Bristol in the War

Wartime Bristol

I never really have comprehended what it must have been like living in Bristol in the war. With bombs dropping and areas being destroyed. My Nan lived through the war. My Grandad had polio as a kid and he was very weak on his upper body. One of his arms was quite withered. So consequently he didn't go to War. He had a lot of abuse for that. People ignoring him or calling him a coward. But he did his bit back here. It must have been a scary place to live in. I found this list of people that had died and where. Different houses with the numbers. Some of them with my family names. Wonder if they were related in some way. The last house we lived in had a home made Anderson Shelter in the back garden. Some tiny thing with corrugated metal sheeting on top. Didn't look like it would protect anything to be honest.
Interesting to read though.
