A Review for You!
Stepford Wives 2004. I went tonight to see this flick with Abby. Actually not expecting much. I'd seen the original and I'm sure some made for TV remake and read the book somewhere along the line. The idea behind it always caught my imagination. Women getting beyond themselves and needing containing. The original was a psychological thriller and possibly didn't do too well because of a surge in women's lib rights and demands era. The 70's! This film however never takes itself seriously at all and is a clever well thought out modern comedy. Even adding a very funny gay couple to the recipe and a brilliant Bette Midler who I always love in films. The film had some very funny and brilliant comedy lines. Lots of name dropping like Microsoft and AOL, My most fav character was Roger the gay 'woman' of the relationship. The very best one liner he gave us was ' I take Prozac with a Viagra Chaser. When you're up, you're REALLY up' The film was very tongue in cheek sexual, I had to explain a few things to Abby but on the whole she got it all (hmmm has she been reading my books!?) Glenn Close was once again a most convincing and comical villain. 'I used to work for NASA, The Pentagon and Mattell' ' I wondered where a could hide a whole town full of robots and I thought , yes Conneticut' Very enjoyable, fun and entertaining. Plus a whole bag of pick and mix sweets. Yummy.
