Lyrics Quiz for Steve

Who sang this and what year....and no cheating!

You live your life in the songs you hear
On the rock and roll radio
And when a young girl doesn't have any friends
That's a really nice place to go
Folks hoping you'd turn out cool
But they had to take you outta school
You're a little touched you know, Angie Baby
Lovers appear in your room each night
And they whirl you across the floor
But they always seem to fade away
When your daddy taps on your door
Angie girl, are you all right
Tell the radio good-night
All alone once more, Angie Baby
Angie Baby, you're a special lady
Living in a world of make-believe
Well, maybe
Stopping at her house is a neighbor boy
With evil on his mind
'Cause he's been peeking in Angie's room
At night through her window blind
I see your folks have gone away
Would you dance with me today
I'll show you how to have a good time, Angie Baby
When he walks in her room,
He feels confused like he's walked into a play
And the music's so loud it spins him around
'Til his soul has lost its way
And as she turns the volume down
He's getting smaller with the sound
It seems to pull him off the ground
Toward the radio he's bound never to be found
The headlines read that a boy disappeared
and everyone thinks he died
'Cept a crazy girl with a secret lover
Who keeps her satisfied
It's so nice to be insane
No one asks you to explain
Radio by your side, Angie Baby
Angie Baby, you're a special lady
Living in a world of make-believe
Well, maybe Well, maybe

You know Pan's People did an awful dance to this song! Full of angst and facial expressions. God Maybe it's disturbed me all these years. I don't know which dance was worse this one or Gilbert O'Sullivans 'Get Down'

It's Helen Reddy, circa 1972. Shelagh's favourite artiste (go check 'You and me against the world' - that was her favourite track. I think she thought it was a lifestyle choice :( ) (I'd have to go look up the year to be certain of the date).

I didn't think you'd get that I shouldn't have given you all the lyrics. Do you remember a song around the same time with these lyrics
'Brush your hair to the rhythm of the music playing on the radio
Paint your face while your listening to the talking of the jockey
on the early morning show
put your troubles to the back of your mind
cos the temperature outside is just fine
and its 10 to 8
and you just aint got the time'

Its driving me mad and I cannot remember who sang it though I think the title must have been something like 10 - 8?

It's "ten to eight" by David Castle - released 1978, reached 55 on the chart. I had to Google for it - but it was also covered by Helen Reddy and is on her 'Greatest Hits' album. What is this, Helen Reddy week?

Tsk, catch me on a Bowie lyric, particularly one off Hunky Dory, my favourite Bowie album... I think not.

Life on Mars, 1972

"now the workers have struck for fame
'cos Lennon's on sale again
see the mice in their myriad hordes
from Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns
But the film is a saddening bore
'Cause I wrote it ten times or more
It's about to be writ again
As I ask you to focus on

Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh man! Look at those cavemen go
It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the Lawman
Beating up the wrong guy
Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
Is there life on Mars?"
