Memories

The day I gave birth to Danz wasn't a very good one. I was already in hospital...Had been there about a week. A pre-existing Renal problem had exacerbated with the pregnancy and my bloods were increasingly becoming very abnormal. I was also still vomiting about 10 times a day and extremely miserable.
In the morning they did a baby trace. They couldn't find her heartbeat and I was rushed at breakneck speed up to delivery suit for a scan. Everything was ok and they brought me back to my bed. I felt ill and sick. Dunno maybe it was the stress but I vomited. Fresh blood.
This isn't a usual problem for midwives and they got a bit panicky. I was moved to a single room and they decided I needed a naso-gastric tube inserted.
This is an unpleasant procedure where they insert a tube into your nose, past your throat into your stomach.
It's also not a midwife procedure. Nowadays midwives aren't trained as nurses first. Only one of them had ever done one before. She tried three times. Each time it came out of my mouth. She looked flustered and began to stress.
I said...Let me do it and took the tube and passed it myself. Tsk. Actually passing tubes in small babies is my specialty. But doing it to yourself is an experience.
They then decided to 'start me off' with prostin pessaries.
I was 36 weeks and I knew that trying that early isn't easy.
Over the next few hours I was given increasing doses. I was getting severe labour pains. With absolutely no progress. Prostin labour pains aren't nice. No let up just constant pain. I was ill. Tired and having bloods taken every two hours.
The night came. I was out of it. My bloods must have been very bad because suddenly they decided I needed an emergency Caesarian.
I remember waking up in the maternity intensive care. A doctor came. She said that Danielle had taken 7 minutes to breath. They had to resuscitate her fully. I spent 24 hours in there and didn't see her until the next day.
Ian said I couldn't have the name Danielle because his cousins boy was called Daniel.
But I must have been pretty ill because he let me have my own way.
Danielle was jittery and quiet. I remember Marie visiting and having to feed the baby for me.
Abby turned into brat overnight. Poor kid. They liken it to your feelings if your husband brings another wife home to live.
I still see the doctor who put me to sleep in the hospital sometimes. I usual go red thinking he's seen me with me knickers off. The joys of being a nurse!
