Chip and Pin

I had a frustrating experience in the post office today (no this isn't rude Clarrie tsk)
I wanted to withdraw cash. They have a new chip and pin machine. The lady said I had to put my card in it. I pointed out that there was no chip in an Electron card. She pursed her lips and said "Yes but we have to use it". I sighed and put my card in. Three times she tried to access the chip. Afterwards she said "It won't work", so did it manually. FFS I'm not the most patient of people but can't these places employ people with brains.
After she said that I wouldn't be able to use my card there for much longer without a chip. When I returned to the castle I called up the bank and they told me there is no date set for changing electron cards over to chip and pin for the foreseeable future.
BTW This was post office in a posh part of town. The foreigners who run my local PO seem to have more common sense.
